What’s Hot In Scotland
Roxy Gillespie takes a look at the best new music coming out of Scotland in the first monthly round up of the country’s best bands and artists, Hot in Scotland December.
Hot in Scotland December News and Reviews.
Declan Welsh and The Decadent West have just completed a UK tour to promote their excellent recent album Cheaply Bought Expensively Sold. With their socialist ideals garnering an interview on Channel 4 news recently, Declan Welsh has achieved unexpected exposure. The band have an assured and hard-hitting stage presence that has translated beautifully into their recorded material.
Flamboyant and exciting, Walt Disco give an emotive and exhilarating live experience. They have just toured supporting another band of the moment The Ninth Wave. Walt Disco have tremulous vocals and an arty, provocative sound.
Neon Waltz have just released the beautiful, haunting track All In Good Time. The song was recorded live at the imposing Prestwick Castle. With a sold out gig coming up in Wick at the brilliant Assembly Rooms, The band continue to be one of Scotland’s finest.
Crystal are another fine band from Glasgow. They have several singles including Sex Rich and Speak Of The Devil under their belt. With upcoming gigs around Scotland, they are fast becoming an essential part of the live scene. Featuring strong female vocals and excellent rock guitars, these are definitely a young band to watch.
Lucia & the Best Boys are now firm favourites and travelled to Austin, Texas for SXSW last year. Their latest track Good Girls Do Bad Things has a sultry, 80s rock feel and is one of the strongest tracks from the band so far. Hot in Scotland December video of the month.
Hot in Scotland December Live
It’s no surprise that the pre-Christmas live events on offer are second to none. Here are the Hot in Scotland December pick of the gigs.
The APG Christmas gig in Aberdeen Tunnels features a line up including Lucia, Baby Strange, Man Of Moon and Crystal. The gig looks set to be a real showcase of the talent found in the country at the moment. I rate this as the Hot in Scotland December gig of the month, as the sheer amount of excellent bands on the line up makes this extremely cool.
Those people lucky enough to have tickets to the sold out Neon Waltz gig at Wick Assembly Rooms also get to see Forgetting The Future and OpenPlan. Having seen Neon Waltz at The Assembly Rooms before, I can only say it was well worth travelling all the way to Caithness.
Primal Scream play Inverness Ironworks on December 13th. The band are always an excellent proposition live, so this is going to be a great night.
Glasgow’s King Tut’s plays host to their first Hopscotch night featuring The Dunts, Declan Welsh and The Decadent West, The Ninth Wave, Lucia and the Best Boys and Spyres on December 21. A great line up so be quick! More information here.
Rascalton have a three date tour in December. More information here.
The Dunts play The Garage in Glasgow on December 14.
Baby Strange headline King Tut’s in Glasgow on New Year’s Eve; a fantastic way to bring in the New Year. Expect complete mayhem, fine Glasgow punk and an unforgettable night.
So then, plenty early Christmas presents on offer. Check out some of this talent. If you missed their recent tours and can’t get to any of these gigs, rest assured they all have big plans for 2020. Catching them live would be a fantastic start to the decade. Check out what’s Hot in Scotland January to find out more.
