[Intro]
What about your promises, promises?
What about your promises, promises, promises? (No)

[Verse 1]
What a shame
Didn’t wanna be the one that got away, yeah
Big mistake, you broke the sweetest promise
That you never should have made

[Pre-Chorus]
I’m here on the kitchen floor
You call, but I won’t hear it
You said, “No one else”
How could you do this, babe? (What about your promises, promises?)

[Chorus]
You really blew this, babe
We ain’t getting through this one, babe
This is the last time I’ll ever call you, babe (This is the last time, this is the last time)
This is the last time I’ll ever call you, babe
(What about your promises, promises, promises?)

[Verse 2]
What a waste
Takin’ down the pictures and the plans we made, yeah
And it’s strange how your face doesn’t look so innocent
Your secret has its consequence and that’s on you, babe

[Pre-Chorus]
I break down every time you call
We’re a wreck, you’re the wrecking ball
We said, “No one else”
How could you do this, babe? (What about your promises, promises?)

[Chorus]
You really blew this, babe
We ain’t getting through this one, babe
This is the last time I’ll ever call you, babe (This is the last time, this is the last time)
This is the last time I’ll ever call you

[Bridge]
Since you admitted it, I keep picturing
Her lips on your neck, I can’t unsee it
I hate that because of you, I can’t love you, babe
What a shame, didn’t want to be the one that got away
How could you do this, babe?

[Chorus]
You really blew this, babe
We ain’t getting through this one, babe
This is the last time I’ll ever call you, babe (This is the last time, this is the last time)
This is the last time I’ll ever call you, babe

[Outro]
I’m here on the kitchen floor, you call but I won’t hear it
You said, “No one else”
We ain’t getting through this one, babe
I break down every time you call
We’re a wreck, you’re the wrecking ball
You said, “No one else”
This is the last time I’ll ever call you, babe“Babe” is a song Taylor Swift wrote with Pat Monahan of Train while working on her 2012 album, Red. The track, which fans believe is about actor Jake Gyllenhaal, finds Taylor looking back on a failed relationship. She gave the song to Sugarland in 2018 before recording her own rendition for Red (Taylor’s Version).Fans have pointed out several connections between “Babe” and other songs written for the Red album, including “All Too Well,” “Girl At Home,” and “The Last Time.”In a video uploaded to Instagram on the day of the Sugarland version’s release, Swift said:It’s a song that I wrote with Pat Monahan when I was making the Red album. I’m so happy that it gets its own life, I’m so happy that Sugarland wanted to record it, and has done such a good job with it, and I’m so stoked to be able to sing on it, too. Before a show in Cleveland in July 2018, she added:The story behind this is that sometimes I’ll write a song that I absolutely love but I feel like it doesn’t fit with an album I’ve made, so I hold it back and hope it’ll have its own moment some day, whether it’s me singing it or some other artist. And in this case, it’s an artist called Sugarland!
