[Verse 1]
We drive through the woods, rich neighborhoods to watch
We joked as we looked that they were too good for us
‘Cause socially speaking, we were the same
With runaway fathers and mothers who drank
A tale old as time, young love don’t last for life
And now I know, now I know
It’s time to go, it’s time to go

[Chorus]
We’ve traveled the seas, we’ve ridden the stars
We’ve seen everything from Saturn to Mars
As much as it seems like you own my heart
It’s astronomy, we’re two worlds apart

[Post-Chorus]
(It’s astronomy) We’re two worlds apart
(It’s astronomy) We’re two worlds apart

[Verse 2]
From far away, I wish I’d stayed with you
But here, face to face, a stranger that I once knew
I thought if I wandered, I’d fall back in love
You said distance brings fondness, but guess not with us
The only mistake that we didn’t make was run
(Now look what we’ve done)

[Chorus]
We’ve traveled the seas, we’ve ridden the stars
We’ve seen everything from Saturn to Mars
As much as it seems like you own my heart
It’s astronomy, we’re two worlds apart

[Post-Chorus]
(It’s astronomy) We’re two worlds apart

[Bridge]
Stop tryna keep us alive
You’re pointing at stars in the sky
That already died
Stop tryna keep us alive
You can’t force the stars to align
When they’ve already died
Oh, we’ve died, ooh

[Chorus]
Oh, we’ve traveled the seas, we’ve ridden the stars
We’ve seen everything from Saturn to Mars
As much as it seems like you own my heart
It’s astronomy, we’re two worlds apartAstronomy is rumored to be the second lead single off of Conan Gray’s highly anticipated sophomore album, Worlds Apart*. The song was teased with multiple snippets on his Instagram and the single’s pre-save page. The song shares similar elements with The Story, a song from Conan’s debut album, Kid Krow. The song is about how you drift apart from someone you loved because you realized that they’re not the same person they used to be. All of a sudden, you have nothing in common with this person. It’s painful to have to let them go and to accept that things aren’t the same. You slowly become aware that you shouldn’t try to piece things back together and it’d be easier to stay strangers.“Astronomy” is about that slow, painful, often denial inducing process of growing apart from somebody. That moment when all of a sudden you look at that person you’ve loved for years and realise you no longer know them. That you two exist on two different worlds now. I find the worst heartbreaks happen slowly. No blowout fight and slamming doors and showing up on doorsteps while it’s raining. Just a gradual decaying of love with nothing left to do to stop it from slipping away. There’s no explanation, nobody to blame. That hurts the most.—via Coup de Main Magazine
